At first glance, Beerus’ intervention seems like it should have prevented the entire crisis. However, the story’s complicated timeline system provides the key to understanding why his action was not enough.

Beerus becomes suspicious of Zamasu after learning about his extreme hatred toward mortals and his interest in Goku. Realizing that the Universe 10 apprentice could be preparing something dangerous, Beerus decides to act before Zamasu can carry out his plan. Using Hakai, the signature destruction ability of a God of Destruction, he completely erases the Zamasu present in front of him.

The problem is that this Zamasu belonged to a different timeline from the one that produced Goku Black. The Zamasu responsible for Goku Black came from another timeline. In that reality, he successfully executed his plan to exchange bodies with Goku, murdered the original Goku and assumed the identity of Goku Black. By the time Beerus destroyed Zamasu in the altered present, this version had already transformed into the enemy responsible for the Future Trunks crisis.

The Time Ring used by the Supreme Kais further complicates the situation. These artifacts allow their users to move between timelines and, according to the rules established in the anime, provide protection against certain alterations to personal history. Therefore, destroying a counterpart in one timeline does not automatically remove a version that already exists elsewhere.

Instead, different actions can create separate timelines in which the same individual experiences completely different destinies.
