CASEOTN - Sasuke Uchiha is the deuteragonist of the original Naruto series, portrayed by Masashi Kishimoto as being just as important as the protagonist, Naruto Uzumaki himself.

Over the years, Sasuke Uchiha underwent a remarkable and compelling journey, transforming from Naruto's best friend into one of his greatest adversaries, and ultimately returning to his side as a friend—even willing to risk his own life.

In the Boruto era, Sasuke's character has become quite controversial. Although he has grown immensely powerful, the redemption arc he achieved in the original Naruto franchise has suffered a severe blow, with the character once again branded a villain by the entire ninja world.

Following the events of "Omnipotence," Sasuke has become reviled across the ninja world; the redemption journey so carefully crafted by Kishimoto has effectively been undone, damaging his character to a certain extent.

Boruto: Two Blue Vortex Confirms Sasuke's Tarnished Image in the Ninja World

Sasuke Uchiha's character journey throughout the Naruto series was tumultuous. When he was first introduced in Naruto Chapter 2 on October 11, 1999, it was immediately clear that he would play a pivotal role in the overarching story.

Sasuke's role expanded beyond all expectations when he eventually left Konoha, becoming the primary driving force behind Naruto's quest for strength—surpassing even Naruto's desire to become Hokage.

The Naruto series culminated in a final clash between Naruto and Sasuke—a battle Sasuke won in Chapter 698 on November 1, 2014. Following this fight, Sasuke dedicated his life to supporting Naruto Uzumaki, striving to build the world the yellow-haired ninja had always dreamed of.

Over the ensuing decade, Naruto and Sasuke successfully thwarted most threats to the world, repeatedly risking their lives in the process. Through these actions, Sasuke redeemed himself for the misdeeds committed following Itachi Uchiha's death and his own descent into villainous madness.

The Boruto series has made it clear that Sasuke had done more than enough to earn redemption. Yet, recent story developments have once again made him an object of hatred. In Boruto Chapter 80, released on April 20, 2023, it was officially confirmed that Sasuke Uchiha acted against Konoha's wishes to protect Boruto Uzumaki.

At this juncture, Boruto was viewed as the killer of the Seventh Hokage and a target requiring immediate elimination.

Sasuke’s decision to save him and subsequently flee the village led everyone to assume he was complicit in the Seventh Hokage's death—particularly given their past rivalry—casting him as a major traitor.

Additional information published in V-Jump Issue #10 (August 20, 2026) revealed Mikio Ikemoto confirming that Sarada Uchiha and Sakura Haruno endured severe scorn in Konoha during the timeskip due to Sasuke's actions.

Konoha harbored deep resentment toward Sakura and Sarada for their connection to Sasuke, branding them traitors to the entire village. In short, the reputation Sasuke had spent years building had completely collapsed.

Sasuke’s redemption arc has been ruined for the sake of Boruto Uzumaki.

The hatred directed at Sasuke within the ninja world is disheartening because, to an extent, it undermines his redemption arc. Sasuke’s story traced his journey from a boy driven by vengeance to a vengeful figure intent on destroying Konoha for what it had done to his brother.

He later sought to revolutionize the village system by becoming a Hokage capable of truly protecting everyone and shouldering the burden, much like his brother, Itachi. After his defeat by Naruto, Sasuke finally saw the light and helped create a successful world where he was accepted by those around him.

Now, however, Sasuke is once again reviled by the ninja world due to the "Omnipotence" effect introduced in Boruto Chapter 79—a development that calls into question the entire redemption arc Kishimoto had meticulously crafted over the years.

For the sake of the plot, Sasuke’s redemption story has been significantly compromised in the Boruto series, which is truly unfortunate. Sasuke has also consistently been used as a stepping stone for the next generation of characters, such as Sarada and Boruto Uzumaki.

This has raised questions regarding how his legacy is being handled in the Boruto series. Many Naruto fans are unhappy with the treatment of Sasuke’s character in this new story and can only hope for improvement in the future.

Fortunately, Sasuke Uchiha is poised to return in Boruto: Two Blue Vortex. His return has been heavily hinted at for the series' new arc—officially launching on June 18, 2026—as the arc's main antagonist is Hidari, a Shinju created from Sasuke's DNA.

Once he is defeated, Sasuke's Claw Mark Soul Orb will be recovered and used to bring him back. All eyes are now on Boruto: Two Blue Vortex Chapter 37—set for release on September 17, 2026—which will advance the storyline toward Sasuke's inevitable return.
