CASEOTN - In a recent interview, Song Kang opened up about the twists and turns of his acting career.

Having gained widespread recognition for his role in the Netflix drama Love Alarm, he revealed that before achieving success, he once received a rather harsh comment during an audition. On a show hosted by Yoo Jae Suk, Song Kang recalled being told, "You're handsome, but you lack charm."

Yoo Jae Suk noted that hearing such a comment firsthand could be deeply hurtful. However, Song Kang chose to view the criticism positively. He explained, "I was taken aback, but everyone has their own perspective, so I thought a lot about how I could showcase my own unique charm."

Instead of becoming discouraged, Song Kang worked hard to boost his self-confidence. Yoo Jae Suk agreed that while such comments are difficult to accept, they can sometimes help actors identify areas for improvement.

A major breakthrough came when Song Kang landed the lead role in Love Alarm after competing against approximately 900 other applicants.

Recalling the moment he received the news, Song Kang said, "I was overjoyed. I was at a dermatology clinic when I got the call telling me I’d landed the role. My heart kept racing even while I was undergoing treatment. I was so happy on my way home."

According to Song Kang, the director of Love Alarm later told him that his confidence during the audition was a key factor that made him stand out.

He remembered the director saying, "You look like someone who wouldn't get discouraged no matter what people say," adding that this quality was a perfect match for the character he was to portray.

The success of Love Alarm was followed by his role in another Netflix drama, Sweet Home, which further boosted his popularity and helped him build a massive international fan base.

In the interview, Song Kang also shared that his father was one of his biggest supporters in the pursuit of his acting dreams. While his mother had initially doubted whether acting suited his quiet personality, his father always offered his full support.

After achieving success, Song Kang wanted to repay his parents for their support. He revealed that he bought a car for his father following the success of Sweet Home and began giving his parents an allowance.
