CASENITY.com – Fans of romantic comedy anime have a new adaptation to watch out for as Sekina Aoi’s My Crush’s Crush has officially been confirmed for television. The manga, also known by its Japanese title Boku no Suki na Hito ga Suki na Hito, will make the jump from print to animation, with a commemorative illustration by artist Ryo Tsuzura released alongside the announcement.

The series comes from Sekina Aoi, the creator behind Gamers!, a romantic comedy light novel franchise that previously received its own television anime in 2017. Aoi’s new work once again centers on complicated romantic feelings, but this time the story builds its comedy around a chain of unrequited crushes.

My Crush’s Crush is currently being serialized through Hakusensha’s Young Animal ZERO. Its seventh collected volume was released in Japan on August 28, 2026, while Yen Press has also announced plans to publish the series in English, although a release date has not yet been revealed.

At the center of the story is Sora Akizuki, a young man who decides to confess his feelings to Miya Fuwa. Unfortunately for Sora, his declaration does not go as planned because Miya turns him down and reveals that her own romantic interest lies elsewhere.

Miya's crush is Asahi Suzukaze, the president of a mysterious organization known as the “Clinical Trials Club.” Hoping to understand Asahi and perhaps get closer to the situation surrounding his failed confession, Sora decides to join the unusual club.

However, Sora soon discovers that his situation is far more complicated than expected. Asahi is also interested in another person, creating another link in an increasingly tangled chain of romantic feelings. What initially looks like a straightforward rejection therefore develops into a much more chaotic relationship web.

This unusual setup gives the manga plenty of room for misunderstandings and comedic situations. Rather than following a conventional romance in which two characters gradually fall for one another, the story places several characters in overlapping crushes, making it difficult for anyone to predict where their feelings will ultimately lead.

The television adaptation also represents another anime project connected to Aoi's growing body of work. His earlier series Gamers! combined school life, gaming culture and romantic misunderstandings, while My Crush’s Crush appears to take the author's fascination with complicated relationships in an even more tangled direction.

With the anime now officially confirmed, more details about its production, cast, staff and premiere schedule are expected to be announced later. For now, the biggest attraction is the promise of a romantic comedy in which practically every character seems to have feelings for someone who may be interested in somebody else.
